Pokemon Episode 46 – Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon
Episode Summary
Season 1 – Indigo League
Full summary
Ash, Misty, and Brock come across a large gorge, know as "Grandpa Canyon." They see hundreds of people carrying pickaxes and backpacks making their way down, and wonder what they're doing. Gary shows up, teasing Ash for being ignorant. He tells Ash that he, along with all the other people, are looking for Pokemon fossils. He rushes off, leaving Ash with another taunt. Brock and Misty restrain the fuming Ash as he wants to find a fossil before Gary does. Brock expresses his feelings as to how the fossils should be left in peace, but Misty disagrees. Jigglypuff sees them, but by the time he jumps onto a rock to sing, they've left.
Gary is already digging away at the canyon floor when he comes across a small, spiral shaped fossil. A scientist takes it from his hands and examines it. Gary thinks that it's a brain, but (much to his cheerleaders' disgust) it turns out to be fossilized Pokemon manure.
Meanwhile, Ash and his friends view everything from the edge of the canyon. Brock notes that nobody has found a significant fossil yet, and wonders if there is any truth to the fossil rush. Suddenly, they hear a familiar voice. They turn and see Meowth standing with his back to them. He complains to himself that Jessie and James are late when they pop up from behind a rock. They go through most of their motto, but Meowth bashes them over the head with a mallet. Angered, Jessie grabs the mallet and sends him flying into the side of a cliff. They tell Meowth that they've planted "the dynamite" and once they set it off, they'll be able to get all the fossils.
Ash and his friends are shocked to hear this. Brock says that everyone will be caught in the blast and he and Misty dash off to tell them while Ash runs towards Team Rocket to stop them. He yells to them, but he's too late, as they've already lit the fuse. Ash sends out Squirtle, who tries to put out the small flame. He's quick, but not quick enough, as the flame skips by each time. They run after it, still trying to put it out. Team Rocket send out their Pokemon and chase Ash. They all run down the cliff, nobody succeeding in their goal. James commands Weezing to use Sludge Attack, but he trips and they all start to roll down the slope, picking up Ash and his Pokemon along the way.
After reaching the bottom, they see the flame sizzle by. Ash looks ahead, and sees that they are only yards away from where the dynamite sits. In a last ditch effort, Pikachu shocks the dynamite, but it doesn't work. The dynamite explodes, opening up a huge hole in the ground through which everybody but Squirtle fall. The cliffs on either side of the hole crumble, and the rock plugs up the gap. Brock and Misty soon arrive on the scene and they start to move the rock out of the way. Jigglypuff appears again, seeing the pile of rock as a stage, but it flattens, angering Jigglypuff once again.
Deep inside the earth, everybody awakens and find themselves in a huge cave. Meowth notes that they must've fallen into the cave due to the hole, and Jessie and James accuse Ash. They argue, but Meowth quickly breaks it up by pointing out that the hole is plugged. James smiles to himself, but when he's asked if he has a solution, he simply says that they are doomed. Jessie clubs him over the head. Suddenly, Pikachu points into the shadows, where several glowing eyes appear. Jessie and James cling to each other, and the eyes come into the light. Ash uses Dexter and it tells him that they are Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, and Kabutops. Their eyes are bloodshot, and they look like they just woke up. James concludes that the dynamite blast woke them up, and he and Jessie throw some Pokeballs at them. Kabutops deflects them with his huge blades and Ash sends out Charmeleon to protect them. Needless to say, he won't obey Ash, and the ancient Pokemon start to chase everyone.
Outside, Misty and Brock tell Officer Jenny what has happened. She tells them that the bulldozers can't make it down, and runs off to find some more people to help dig. Brock sends Geodude out, and he helps them all move the rocks.
Back in the cave, the ancient Pokemon are beating up on Arbok and Weezing. Pikachu tries to shock two Kabutops, but to no avail. Ash asks Charmeleon to help him, but he is asleep on a rock. The Kabutops lunge at Ash and Pikachu, and just when escape seems impossible, they stop. They and all the other ancient Pokemon scurry away. Team Rocket and Ash come out from where they were hiding and stare at the retreating figures. Suddenly, they hear something else approaching. An Aerodactyl swoops in, knocking Charmeleon from his perch. He turns, and glares at everybody. Dexter tells Ash that scientists feel that Aerodactyl was a carnivore, since it has such sharp teeth. Jessie points out that this must be why the others ran away and Meowth nervously hopes that he doesn't like cat food. Aerodactyl swoops down and starts to chase them. Charmeleon, angered about being awakened, challenges Aerodactyl. One dive, however, and the fire lizard is knocked out.
Suddenly, they all hear Brock and Misty's voices from above. Just as the hole opens up, Aerodactyl scoops Ash up in his claws. As he flies towards the gap, Pikachu and Charmeleon jump onto his tail. He flies out, and they fall off. Misty and Brock ask Pikachu where Ash is, and he points up at where Aerodactyl has landed, still clutching Ash. Jigglypuff shows up again, running over to a stool and two spotlights that he sees as a stage. Misty asks Jigglypuff to sing, and he seems eager to comply.
Meanwhile, Aerodactyl and Charmeleon are "arguing" in a way. Charmeleon suddenly starts to glow, evolves into Charizard, and flies up into the air. Aerodactyl sets off again, this time with Charizard following behind. Ash is touched, as he thinks Charizard evolved in order to rescue him. A Flamethrower from him quickly changes this thought, and it dawns on Ash that Charizard only evolved in order to fight Aerodactyl.
Charizard continues to let loose flames and Misty runs back over to Jigglypuff. She turns on one of the lamps and Jigglypuff starts in on his song. Aerodactyl starts to look tired and, before Ash falls asleep, he tells the Pokemon to stay awake long enough to put him down. Charizard, meanwhile, is keeping his fingers in his ears so that he doesn't fall asleep. Aerodactyl finally does fall asleep and after he drops Ash, he falls back through the hole. The impact of him hitting the ground plugs it back up, however. Charizard swoops in and catches Ash on his back, then lands, falling asleep. Ash rolls off, and stops by an egg. By this time, Jigglypuff has realized that everyone is asleep. He brings out his marker, and doodles all over everybody's faces.
Later, Officer Jenny tells everyone that the Aerodactyl was a dream caused by Jigglypuff. Some people, like Gary, are skeptical, but believe her. Officer Jenny also tells everyone that Grandpa Canyon will be closed off to protect from any other cave-ins. As they leave, Ash wonders aloud where Jigglypuff went. He then pulls out the egg he rolled up against when he fell asleep, and shows it off. Brock pulls it out of his hands and runs off, with Ash soon behind. Meanwhile, however, Team Rocket is still inside the cave. They nervously sing to the ancient asleep Pokemon to make sure that they won't wake up. How will they get out of this one...Gallery
